Founder Managing Director
Paulette McAllister is a Heritage and Place Strategist with over 30 years of experience in the built environment. She is Founder and Managing Director of Joseph Hardy & Company Ltd.
Paulette’s work is defined by her deep understanding of Place, encompassing social, cultural and architectural heritage she continuously demonstrates her commitment to shaping schemes of all scales to serve the long-term benefit of communities.
She holds a longstanding role in supporting Local Government, acting as a Place Advisor and an external consultee to the historic environment. Her leadership and expertise includes the reuse of historic buildings, management of conservation areas, Place Narratives for regeneration programmes, and the strategic integration of heritage into sustainable urban design. She has acted as an expert witness and advised on development strategies for new homes programmes, most recently directing the delivery of Net Zero Carbon Council Homes and an Estate Regeneration Programme for a Local Authority.
Respected widely for her collaborative approach to leadership and her ability to work across disciplines, she ensures Heritage is embedded within future facing design narratives, to achieve the highest standards of quality and legacy in Placemaking.
Originally from the North East, Paulette is a former graduate of Chelsea School of Art and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, she serves as Vice Chair of the Essex Quality Review Panel and is passionate about Heritage as an enabler, how it should inform resilient and connected Places. Paulette has co-authored design guides, SPDs, Local Plan studies, and conservation area appraisals, and has contributed her own academic research on coastal erosion and heritage, as well as education programmes for young people and place.
